Little boy still in hospital five days after being hit by a truck

A child who was hit by a truck outside of a Middlesbrough nursery remains in hospital days after the shocking collision.

Acklam[1] Road was closed for several hours on Friday, June 23, after police received reports of a collision between a child and a truck. The incident happened at around 1.20pm and a cordon was erected shortly after preventing traffic passing through the area.

At the time, Cleveland Police[2] confirmed that a child had been taken to hospital by ambulance following the ‘serious’ crash near to Acklam’s Children’s Day Nursery. Now in an update the force has confirmed that a little boy remains in hospital and there has been no change to his condition.

On Friday, Acklam Road was closed from Northern Road to Springfield Road and the area directly outside the nursery was taped off. Officers could be seen carrying out door-to-door enquiries in the area including speaking to some of the ten homeowners whose houses were included in the cordon.

The force asked any witnesses who had seen the incident or may have had dash cam or CCTV footage to get in touch to aid them in their investigation.

Acklam Road from Ayresome Green Lane to Burlam Road in Middlesbrough remains closed following a serious collision at around 1.45pm today involving a young child and a truck.

“The child was taken by ambulance to hospital and collision investigation officers remain on scene carrying out enquiries. We would ask motorists to avoid the area if possible and thank them for their understanding and co-operation.

“Any witnesses who have not yet spoken to police or anyone with dash cam or other footage is asked to contact Cleveland Police on the 101 number quoting ref 122441.”

The North East Ambulance Service confirmed that they had taken one patient to James Cook University hospital[5] after they ‘came across’ a road traffic collision.

A spokesperson for NEAS said: “One of our double crewed ambulances came across a road traffic collision on Acklam Road, Middlesbrough just after 1.20pm this afternoon and one person was taken to James Cook Hospital.”

In the latest update from Cleveland Police, they have confirmed that it was a little boy who was injured following the crash and they are continuing to carry out enquiries into the incident. They have said that the little boy is still in hospital and there has been no change to his condition.

A spokesperson for the force said: “Enquiries are continuing, and the little boy remains in hospital with no change to his condition.”
