Homes evacuated after severe blaze in middle of night
People were forced to flee their homes in the middle of the night after a severe fire in Warwickshire[1]. A number of residents left their homes after flames spread through a property in Copenhagen Way, Bidford-on-Avon, at around 1.45am today (June 14).
Six crews, four from Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service and two from their counterparts at Hereford & Worcester, were initially involved in the response as the fire spread from the first floor, into the roof space and into the roof of a neighbouring property.
“All residents self-evacuated from the affected properties,” a WFRS spokesperson said. “Some members of the public were assessed by the ambulance service. One dog was found outside by crews and returned to its owner.”
The spokesperson added: “The fire was located on the first floor and roof space. Crews tackled the blaze using breathing apparatus, hose reel jets and a covering jet.
“The fire had spread from the property of origin to an adjoining property via a common roof void, but was contained at the loft partition wall by the crews and prevented from spreading further.”
It was not immediately clear whether anyone was seriously injured or whether the occupant of the property in question was allowed to return. West Midlands Ambulance Service has been approached for comment.
