Gravesend train station evacuated after fire on board a train – live …
A fire at Gravesend[1] Railway Station has triggered a large emergency service response this afternoon (June 19). Crews from Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) were called to the scene on Rathmore Road shortly after 1pm.
Initial updates from Southeastern confirmed a fault with the signalling system in the area, meaning no trains have been able to run through Gravesend. The rail operator has issued an update confirming that the singalling fault was the result of the fire.
At the height of the incident, four fire engines were called to the scene to tackle the blaze. Network Rail has also been called to the scene to assess the incident.
An update from KFRS stated: “It’s believed an electrical box has caught alight and spread to the railway bank. Crews are using hose reel jets and fire extinguishers to extinguish the flames.”
The fire has since been successfully extinguished. Due to the extent of the damage caused however, disruption is expected to last for the remainder of the day.
