Gravesend railway station ‘evacuated’ after emergency incident

A railway station has been evacuated, with multiple emergency response vehicles spotted outside.

Police, the fire service and ambulances were spotted at Gravesend[1] railway station after a blaze broke out.

Police have confirmed the station was evacuated and two people were treated by paramedics.

No trains are currently running from the site due to a signalling fault caused by the fire.

Southeastern said the problem is expected to last all day.

A spokesman added: “Sidcup Line services will run to/start from Northfleet The fire brigade are also in attendance.”

One witness near the scene said people were being told to leave the station.

While another added: “I counted at least two fire units, three police units, one ambulance unit and five Network Rail units, and they all appear to still be there now.”

A fire service spokesman added: “Kent Fire and Rescue Service is responding to reports of a fire at a railway station in Rathmore Road, Gravesend.

“Four fire engines are in attendance. It’s believed an electrical box has caught alight and spread to the railway bank. Crews are using hose reel jets and fire extinguishers to extinguish the flames.”

A British Transport Police spokesman said: “Officers were called to Gravesend station at 1.04pm on 19 June following reports of a lineside fire.

“Officers remain on scene assisting the fire brigade. Passengers have been safely evacuated and two people are being assessed by paramedics for minor injuries.
