Elderly man hit by lorry and killed on Birmingham New Road
An elderly man has died after being hit by a lorry on a major Black Country route. The Birmingham New Road in Coseley was shut for several hours following the tragedy.
West Midlands Ambulance Service said "it was immediately clear" that nothing could be done to save the pedestrian, who was confirmed dead at the scene. The collision happened at around 9.36am on Thursday, June 8, near Roseville.
A cordon in place between McDonald's and Vicarage Road. West Midlands Police said a man was detained following the incident and would be "helping with enquiries" as it appealed for witnesses to come forward.
The road was closed for more than seven hours while investigators were at the scene. The cordon was lifted at around 4.45pm.
Traffic was building up in the surrounding areas as a result of the closure. National Express West Midlands also diverted services 8 and X8.
