Eastern Avenue in Gloucester among this week’s planned road …
Road works are due to start this weeked on a key route through Gloucester[1]. Gloucestershire County Council has announced a programme of rolling road works[2] along Eastern Avenue in the city.
Crews will be resurfacing the road from this Saturday (July 1). It is not known what the times of the road works are.
You can see more about the planned works below. Works are also due to take place in Cheltenham[3], Stroud, Tewkesbury and the Cotswolds.
The county council announces road closures[5] in the county every week. Below are all the roads and footpaths across the county which are closed for a variety of reasons.
This can be for carriageway resurfacing, installing utilities or for another valid cause. Please see this week’s road closures in the list below.

The roads are expected to be closed and restricted during various times on a rolling programme starting Saturday July 1 where the presence of approved signage will indicate whether the closures and restrictions are in force.

A46 High Street
Gloucestershire County Council intends to make an order to temporarily close part of the A46 High Street from outside the property known as Cobblers Corner (202 High street) to outside the property known as Ladbrokes (256 High Street) for a distance of about 172.5 metres.
The reason for the closure is for overnight sign maintenance works. There will be no stopping or waiting or loading permitted throughout the duration of the works.
The road is expected to be closed between 1am and 5am on Thursday July 13 only or until the works have been completed.
Alternative Route – as signed on site. Pedestrian access to premises on or next to the road and emergency access will be maintained.
Cambray Place
Gloucestershire County Council, as traffic authority, intend to make an order to temporarily close part of Cambray Place and Bath Street.
The closures are from 20 Cambray Place to 1 Bath Street for about 115m; and 1 Bath Street to 109-117 High Street for about 70m. The closures are from July 10 July 21 with night works to take place between July 18 to July 20.
The reason for the closure is for replacement of the middle section of the pedestrianised footway.
Alternative Route: As signed on site. Pedestrian access to premises on or next to the road and emergency access will be maintained.
A46 Evesham Road, Prestbury[10]
Gloucestershire County Council has made an order to temporarily restrict the road and close part of the footway.
The road will be restricted to 30mph from outside No.6 for 330m north from this point for 330 metres, for 24 hours. The footway will also be closed from from the same points during this period.
The footway closure and speed restriction on the road is necessary to carry out ground investigations. The road and footway are expected to be restricted/closed from Monday June 26, 2023 until Friday July 14, 2023 or until the works have been completed.
Alternative Route – as signed on site. Emergency and Pedestrian access will be maintained.
Bondend Lane, Upton St Leonards
Gloucestershire County Council has made an order to temporarily close part of Bondend Lane from outside the property known as Jemima Cottage for a distance of about 30 metres. The reason for the closure is for new water connection works.
The road is expected to be closed from Monday June 26 until Friday June 30 only or until the works have been completed.
Alternative route – as signed on site. Emergency and pedestrian access will be maintained.
Knapp Lane, Painswick
Gloucestershire County Council has made an order to temporarily close part of Knapp Lane from outside the property known as Knapp Orchard House for a distance of about 50 metres. The reason for the closure is for Severn Trent pipe works.
The road is expected to be closed from Tuesday June 27 until Thursday June 29 only or until the works have been completed.
Alternative route – as signed on site. Pedestrian access to premises on or next to the road and emergency access will be maintained.
Haresfield

The reason for the closure is for Network Rail to undertake track renewal works. The roads are expected to be closed from Friday June 30, 2023 where the presence of approved signage will indicate whether the closures and restrictions are in force.

Winchcombe
Gloucestershire County Council has made an order to temporarily close part of the road from Sudeley Road to Sudeley Lodge from its junction with Sudeley Road to the termination of the road 300 metres south for a total distance of about 300 metres.
The reason for the closure is carriageway patching. The road is expected to be closed from Saturday July 1 until October 2, 2023 only or until the works have been completed.
Alternative Route – as signed on site. Pedestrian and emergency access to adjacent properties will be maintained.
Badgeworth
Notice is hereby given that the Secretary of State for Transport has extended the order to temporarily close part of public footpath ABA 3 from its junction with Bamfurlong Lane in a generally southerly direction for about 166 metres.
The closure is necessary to safeguard the public while construction works are completed to the bridge. The footpath was originally closed for 21 days by emergency notice commencing January 4, 2023.
However, as the works to remedy the problem were not completed it was necessary to close the footpath by an order which authorised the restriction for up to six months from the date of the first notice.
As works are still ongoing, the Secretary of State has granted a further extension of the Order until January 26, 2024, or until the completion of the works, whichever is the earlier. Alternative Routes – as shown on Order Plan. Emergency and pedestrian access to adjoining premises is to be maintained.
Notice is hereby given that the Secretary of State for Transport has extended the order to close temporarily part of the public bridleway ABA118 from its junction with Bamfurlong Lane in a generally south westerly direction for about 227 metres.
The closure is necessary to safeguard the public whilst bridge works take place. The public bridleway was originally closed for 21 days by emergency notice commencing January 6, 2023,
However, as the works to remedy the problem were not completed it was necessary to close the bridleway by an order which authorised the closure for six months from the date of the first notice.
As works are still ongoing, the Secretary of State has granted a further extension of the Order until January 28, 2024 or until the completion of the works, whichever is the earlier. Alternative route: alternative routes for pedestrians only as shown on site. Emergency service access and pedestrian access to adjoining properties will be maintained.
Brockworth
Notice is hereby given that the Secretary of State for Transport has extended the order to close temporarily part of the new public footpath EBW/68 from a point north of Horsebere Brook and running in a generally north north easterly direction through the housing development site for about 190 metres for a distance of about 190 metres.
The closure is necessary for public safety during construction works.
The footpath was originally closed by order from February 26, 2021 and was due to expire on August 25, 2021. However, as works had not been completed an extension was granted by the Secretary of State for Transport lasting until August 26, 2023. However, as works are still ongoing, the Secretary of State has now granted a further extension of the order until January 26, 2024, or until the completion of the works, whichever is the earlier.
Alternative route – as signed on site. Pedestrian access and emergency access to adjoining premises will be maintained.
Notice is hereby given that the Secretary of State for Transport has extended the order to close temporarily part of public footpath EBW/2 in Brockworth[11] from a point north of Brockworth Court and running in a generally north westerly direction for about 450 metres to a point close to the M5 Motorway.
The closure is necessary for health and safety reasons due to the development of new housing. This temporary closure order came into force on January 24, 2019.
As the works were not complete, an extension was granted by the Secretary of State for Transport until July 25, 2021 and again until July 25, 2023. The works are still not complete, and the Secretary of State for Transport has granted a further extension until January 25, 2024 or until the works are complete whichever is earliest.
Alternative route: No alternative route. Pedestrian access to adjoining premises is to be maintained.
Wainlode Lane, Norton
Gloucestershire County Council intend to make an order to temporarily close part of Wainlode Lane from outside the property known as Fir Tree Cottage to its junction with U50320 Lane to Court Farm for a total distance of about 50 metres.
The reason for the closure is for Severn Trent pipe renewal works. The road is expected to be closed from 8am on Monday July 10 until 6pm on Wednesday July 12 only or until the works have been completed.
Alternative Route – as signed on site. Pedestrian and emergency access to adjacent properties will be maintained.
Sevenhampton
Gloucestershire County Council intends to make an order to temporarily close part of the 400607 road, from the Quarry to Bakers Wood, from outside the property known as “The New House” to outside the property known as “Oakfield Cottage” for a distance of about 49 metres.
The reason for the closure is for Thames Water pipe repair. The road is expected to be closed from Tuesday July 11 until Thursday July 13 only or until the works have been completed, whichever is the later.
Alternative Route – as signed on site. Pedestrian access to adjacent properties will be maintained. Emergency vehicular access cannot be maintained due to the excavations taking place in the middle of road.
