Early morning screaming in city centre street sealed off by police

A Birmingham city centre resident has spoken of hearing screaming in the early hours of this morning, June 29, amid a police incident.[1] A main road in Birmingham city centre[2] has been sealed off this morning in Digbeth, with a cordon in place.

Detectives are probing the scene on Bradford Street, Digbeth, and what appears to be a forensics team is also on site. West Midlands Police[3] confirmed to BirminghamLive officers are in attendance at the scene, but have not provided detail on the nature of the incident.

One woman, who lives in the area, told our reporter at the scene she was unsure what the police incident was but added she heard "screaming and shouting" at around 6am before she called the police.

Officers have been based at the scene in Bradford Street this morning. Our reporter said roughly 50 to 60 metres of Bradford Street had been closed off.

West Midlands Police[5] said: "We're currently dealing with an incident in Bradford Street, Digbeth. We will provide further details when we have more information."

There is also some travel disruption with buses diverted from the area. A National Express spokesperson said: "Due to an ongoing Police incident on Bradford Street in the City Centre We are changing the current diversion for our 50 service via: Bradford street, right onto Alcester street, left Digbeth high street in both directions."

Diversion signs are still in place as police probe the scene, and two National Express coaches have been turned away due to the road closure in place.

We have asked West Midlands Ambulance if they were in attendance, and await a response, and more detail from West Midlands Police.
