On Thursday, festival goers were hit by huge traffic jams as they attempted to reach the event. The Download Festival website states: “These are your best and quickest routes to arrive onsite at Download.

“Coming from the South on the M1, use Junction 23 onto the A512, then the A42 north to junction 14 and the A453 straight to Download Festival. Coming from the North on the M1, use Junction 24 onto the A453 and follow signage to Download, past the airport.

During the festival, Nottingham & Derby will be running a shuttle bus service to and from the festival from both East Midlands Parkway and Derby station. Timetables are available on the event’s website.[2]

If you are getting a lift to or from the festival, the drop off / pick up area is located inside the Transport Hub at Download Festival, with road signs directing to this location around the festival site. Organisers recommend instructing drivers to drop you off, and pick you up, from this location and not nearby roads. Roads surrounding the festival can be unsafe, with unstable verges, often with no pavements or lighting.

There will also be “no stopping” orders in place around the site and drivers may risk enforcement action if they do not use the Transport Hub.
