Dog incident referred to RSPCA after ‘dehydrated’ pooch left in ‘hot car’

Cops have referred a dog rescue incident to the RSPCA after the canine was found trapped in a ‘hot car’ at Ikea[1] Birmingham in Wednesbury[2]. West Midlands Police[3] confirmed officers had to “break the window” to rescue the dog[4] which was “overheating and dehydrated”.

A search for the owner had taken place beforehand on Sunday, June 11, but it was to no avail. However cops the driver of the car was later spoken to and the matter

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: “Officers helped rescue a dog from a hot car on June 11 after being called to Ikea in Wednesbury. When officers arrived, it was clear the dog was overheating and dehydrated, so having carried out searches to try and find the owner, they were left with no choice but to break the window to rescue it.

“The dog was taken to the vets for further treatment and the driver of the car was spoken to by officers about the matter, which has since been referred to the RSPCA for review.” Ikea also provided BirminghamLive with a statement.

A spokesperson said: “We can confirm that a dog was found locked in a parked car at IKEA Birmingham on Sunday. When attempts to contact the owners failed, the Police were contacted and came to retrieve the dog for its welfare and safety.”
