MS for North Wales
Speaking in the Welsh Conservative Debate ‘Accounting practices at Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board’, I noted that, as Chair of the Senedd’s Public Accounts and Public Administration Committee, I had been in discussions with the Health Board for some weeks, seeking to obtain a copy of the Ernst & Young forensic report of accounting issues at the Health Board for formal Committee scrutiny, and warned that if “the report is not made available to the Committee, we will explore our Powers to Call under section 37 of the Government of Wales Act 2006”.
In Questions to the First Minister, I referred to new green technologies being developed in North Wales in consequence of proposals in the UK Energy Bill, including carbon capture usage and storage and hydrogen at Hanson's Padeswood cement works in Flintshire, floating offshore wind projects in the Celtic sea, and new nuclear energy in north-west Wales, and asked how the Welsh Government is working with the UK Government to embrace these opportunities.
I raised constituents’ concerns with the Education Minister that the primary special school for Flintshire, Ysgol Pen Coch, doesn’t have provision for a holiday club, unlike other schools in the County, stating that a holiday club would make a huge difference to the well-being of the school’s pupils and their families.
Questioning the Deputy Minister for Climate Change, I said that the need for a third Menai Crossing has been “intensified by the announcement of the Anglesey Freeport” and called on him to engage with businesses in the area who are calling for this additional route.
As a Patron of the British Polio Fellowship, I sponsored and spoke at the Senedd launch of their Optimal Clinical Care Pathway for people affected by Polio, which sets out what good treatment, care and support looks like for polio survivors.
I Chaired meetings of both the Senedd Public Accounts and Public Administration Committee, and the Cross-Party Group on Disability, and attended a meeting of the Cross-Party Group on the Armed Forces and Cadets.
I also joined pupils from Wrexham’s St. Peters Church in Wales Primary School, WWF Cymru and Projects Seagrass, when they handed in their petition at the Senedd calling for a scheme to enable restoration and protection of our vital seagrass beds.
Other engagements included Lloyds Banking Group's Domestic and Financial Abuse Drop-In, ‘Warm This Winter' event, British Heart Foundation Cymru, and a catch-up meeting as Chair of the Cross-Party Group on Hospice and Palliative Care.
