Burglar stole purse and cigarettes while caravan occupants slept

A burglar[1] snuck into a caravan and stole a purse containing cash and some cigarettes while the occupants slept, police have said. Personal ID cards, headphones and a key were also taken from the caravan, which was parked at the Promenade Caravan Park on Roman Bank in Skegness[2].

Lincolnshire Police[3] believe the intruder entered through an open window above the bed where an occupant was sleeping, some time between 11.30pm on Monday, June 19 and Tuesday, June 20. A spokesperson for the force said: "The occupants were not woken by the intruder but obviously this was a very distressing experience."

An investigation has been now launched. The spokesperson added: "We are appealing for any information to help us investigate this crime.

"If you saw or heard anything suspicious, please email DS Anna Harvey at [email protected] with reference to incident number 144 of June 20." Lincolnshire Police has launched a campaign to help tackle burglary in the county, with the number of incidents in East Lindsey being 'consistently higher' during the summer months.

There was a significant peak in the autumn of 2022, when caravans were targeted after holidaymakers had gone home. Police said that 30 incidents had been reported in what they called a 'series'.
