20 tonnes of animal feed destroyed in M5 lorry fire
Emergency services were called to the incident at East Huntspill between Junctions 23 and 22 shortly before 7.30am
Fire control sent a total of three fire engines from Taunton and Bridgwater[1], along with a water bowser and environmental protection unit after receiving "multiple calls" and all three northbound carriageways were closed for a period, causing lengthy tailbacks.
The flat lorry, which was carrying dried and liquid animal feed was well alight on their arrival.
A DSFRS spokesperson said the animal feed was totally destroyed and the lorry was 80 per cent damaged.
The environmental protection unit worked to contain the leaking animal feed.
Lane 1 remains closed but is expected to return to normal between 12.15pm and 12.30pm.
