Disturbing videos and images shared on social media appear to show the aftermath of an attack near the US-Mexico border where it is estimated at least ten people lost their lives, with another nine injured.

An armed group targeted people at a car rally in Baja California, Mexico, located in north-western Mexico, less than 100 miles from the US-Mexico border.

Videos shared online show the bullet-riddled vehicles and injured people lying on on the floor following the roadside massacre on Saturday in San Vicente, near Ensenada, situated south of Tijuana.

One video captures several individuals wielding long guns, mercilessly firing at a car involved in the rally while terrified spectators flee for their lives.

The rally, known locally as Chacanillazo, commenced on Saturday morning at a beach in the city.

Ensenada's mayor, Armando Ayala, has expressed her commitment to cooperating with authorities to uncover the truth behind the incident.

She said: "I am in constant communication with the State Attorney General's Office, as well as with federal agencies at all levels of government, to provide all necessary information.

"Surveillance has been heightened in the southern part of the municipality, and operations to apprehend those responsible for the attack are ongoing."

It is not known what motivated Saturday’s attack, but the brutal act has sent shockwaves throughout the region, raising concerns about the escalating violence perpetrated by suspected Cartel gang members.

Some authorities attributed the bloodshed to a fight between organised crime groups, but no group has claimed responsibility.

However according to local reports, the group of alleged hit men were targeting a member of the CAF Cartel who was being investigated by the U. for drug trafficking.

He was reportedly among those killed Saturday.

Police, the Marines, the Fire Department, and Mexican Red Cross, among other agencies responded to the scene

Gustavo de Hoyos Walther, a local Mexican attorney, wrote on Twitter[2]: "Violence has reached levels never seen in BC and Mexico.

"The roads and towns that for decades saw families and friends pass through in off-road adventure vehicles, today bear witness to executions of crime. What happened today at #Ensenada has to stop."
