Teenager dies in horror smash between car and lorry as road locked …

A TEENAGER has tragically died following a horror crash on the A9.

The 18-year-old man died at the scene of the smash shortly after 6am yesterday morning which involved a car and a lorry.

Horrific pictures showed the charred remains of the vehicles as emergency crews sealed of the scene for more than 17 hours[1] near Dalmagarry, south of Inverness.

Cops confirmed the teenager was the driver and sole occupant of the car – the driver of the lorry was uninjured.

Sergeant David Miller, from the Dingwall Road Policing Unit, said: “At this time, our thoughts remain with the family and friends of the deceased, along with everyone else affected by this incident.”

Cops say the teenager’s next of kin have been made aware aware.

A 70 mile diversion was put in place as mercy crews arrived at the scene.

The road was closed until around 11.15pm and enquiries into the full circumstances surrounding the crash remain ongoing.

Four fire engines and specialist resources were scrambled to the area to tackle the lorry fire.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service[2] spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 6.09am on Friday, 26 May to reports of a road traffic collision on the A9 near Tomatin.
