Smoke billows into sky as flames engulf car transporter near Cov
Firefighters were called after a huge fire broke out on a busy road near Coventry[1]. It happened on the A4177 Birmingham Road on Wednesday (May 17).
Crews from Leamington[2], Kenilworth[3] and Stratford[4] were called to the scene shortly before 3.30pm. A car transporter was found engulfed in flames close to Hatton Park Roundabout.
It was carrying three vehicles which were all well alight, said Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service[5]. Crews spent around two and a half hours extinguishing the blaze, with nearby residents told to avoid the vicinity.
A spokesman for Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service[7] said: “We were alerted at 3.25pm on Wednesday, May 17 to reports of a car transporter on fire on the A4177 Birmingham Road in Warwick[8]. We had four appliances in attendance from Leamington[9], Kenilworth[10] and Stratford[11].
“On arrival, crews found one car transporter vehicle on fire on the highway close to the Hatton Park Roundabout. It was carrying three hybrid vehicles which were all well alight.
“Crews were at the scene for around two and a half hours extinguishing the fire and messages went out on social media advising local residents to avoid the scene and to keep home windows closed.”
