Sink hole forces authorities to shut road over weekend

A sink hole has appeared on a major road in a Gloucestershire[1] town forcing authorities to shut it. The hole appeared on the A46 Bath Road, Cheltenham[2], outside Eagle Tower on Saturday afternoon.

It has forced authorities to do an emergency road closure for the weekend. Motorists in the town are advised to find alternate routes[3].

Bath Road is one of Cheltenham’s busiest streets. The distance of the closure is not known nor when the road will re-open.

In a tweet this afternoon, a spokesman for Gloucestershire Roads, run by Gloucestershire County Council[5], said: “Good afternoon, A46 Bath Rd, Chelt – outside Eagle Tower – is closed due to a sink hole appearing. The road will remain closed over the weekend.

“Please find alternative routes in this area. Thank you.”
