SILK Roads Taunton[1]‘s highway maintenance team has finished the repair work on south of the Silk Mills.
A spokesperson said: “The resurfacing of the Taunton road was finished last night – ahead of schedule. Fantastic work by the team! That’s 1.1km of road resurfacing in just over two weeks, with the team working nights throughout.”
Earlier the first shift of the resurfacing scheme along Silk Mills Road began on Tuesday evening (May 9).
The major project on the A3065 saw Somerset Council’s highway maintenance team carrying out work south of the Silk Mills Roundabout to just past the junction of Netherclay, at Bishop’s Hull.
The work was being carried out in stages, moving south along the route during evenings and overnight until Friday, May 26, to minimise disruption.
Councillor Mike Rigby, Somerset County Council’s executive lead member for Transport and Digital said: “It’s important we get this work done – I’ve been aware of the poor condition of the surface for some time. “There’s no easy time to deliver this, but working at night will minimise disruption.
“Of course we understand there will be an impact in the immediate area, but the team will ensure access for residents and I’m pleased that we have worked with the contractors to ensure the Park and Ride service continues throughout the evening while the works are being delivered.”
