Hundreds have signed up to take part in the Globe-backed fundraiser, taking place in Birkenhead Park on Sunday (May 21). It is open to people of all ages and abilities and there is still time to join them.

Since it began in 1994, around 10m people have taken part, raising more than £920m to help fund cutting-edge research into cancer.  

Urging our readers to sign up Jane Bullock, Cancer Research UK’s spokesperson in the North West, said: “Whether people are living with cancer, taking part in honour of or in memory of a loved one with cancer or signing up to protect their own children’s future, everyone has a reason to Race for Life.”

Comedy classic

WALLASEY Musical Theatre Society will stage its production of The Vicar of Dibley this week.

The show, based on the iconic 1990s TV comedy, is at The Mosslands School in Wallasey on Friday and Saturday (May 19 and 20).

It features the well-known characters Geraldine, the glamorous vicar, Jim, Owen, Hugo, David, Mrs Cropley and of course Alice Tinker.

Model railway

WIRRAL O Gauge Model Railway Open Day will be held this weekend. It takes place on Sunday, May 21 from 11am-4pm at Unit 7, The Odyssey Centre, Corporation Road, Birkenhead, CH41 1HB.

LTC Open Day

BERTRAM Tennis Club’s Centenary Open Day is on Saturday, June 17 from 1-5pm.

Taking place at the venue on Bertram Drive in Meols, it will will feature attractions include Circus Sensible, free coaching, refreshments, bar facilities, games, tombola and other activities. All welcome, just turn up on on the day. Admission is free.

THE Royal Marines Association Merseyside meets at the Royal British Legion on Teehey Lane in Bebington on the last Wednesday of each month at 8pm.

Badminton

Show tunes

HESWALL Musical Society is in rehearsal for its next production featuring songs from the shows.

Runway To Broadway will he staged at Heswall Hall from Friday June 30 to Saturday, July 1.

Performances start at 7.30pm with a Saturday matinee at 2.30pm.

The show will feature songs from well known musicals including Les Miserables and The Sound Of Music.
