Potato lorry overturns on Fish Hill as key A44 stretch closed for more …

A lorry lost its load of potatoes after it overturned on Fish Hill in the Cotswolds. The incident on the A44 at Broadway closed the busy road linking Gloucestershire and Worcestershire from around 11.50am to 6.30pm today (Monday, May 15).

Emergency services have been working at the scene since the incident happened. The driver managed to get out of the overturned vehicle, but there has been a major fuel spill on to the motorway.

This potatoes and fuel on the road meant the road was closed for some time. It is a key route linking Bourton-on-the-Hill with Evesham.

Hereford and Worcester Fire Service said earlier: "Hereford and Worcester Evesham have assisted West Mercia Police to make safe scene of RTC [road traffic collision] involved overturned HGV losing its load of potatoes. Driver had fortunately self extricated but extensive fuel spill on roadway will require clean up road closed for some time."

West Mercia Police said earlier: "Travel Disruption - A44 Fish Hill Broadway Emergency services and Highways at scene dealing with incident. Expect delays. Please take alternative routes."
