Police have confirmed a person has been rushed to hospital after being hit by a car in Sheffield[1]. At around 11am on Friday, May 5, the A61 Chesterfield Road in Meersbrook was closed in both directions. South Yorkshire Police (SYP)[2] rushed to Derbyshire Lane and Meerbrook Park at around 10.45am following reports of a serious crash. Upon arrival, officers found a person who was walking close to Heeley Retail Park was hit by a car.

Paramedics attended the scene and the injured person was rushed to hospital in an ambulance with serious injuries. Confirming the details of the incident, a spokesperson for SYP said: “Emergency services were called at around 10.45am this morning (Friday 5 May) to reports of a collision on Chesterfield Road, Sheffield. It is reported that a car and a pedestrian were involved in a collision close to Heeley Retail Park.

“The pedestrian was taken to hospital with serious injuries.” Congestion built up through Nether Edge and Meersbrook as traffic diversions were in place.
