Police share chilling discovery from ‘burglary hotspot Birmingham …

Police have shared a chilling image after boxing in a suspect in ‘burglary hotspot Birmingham’. Officers chased the driver through city streets.

Traffic officers initiated the pursuit when they spotted a Peugeot recently stolen in a Kings Heath burglary. They clocked the vehicle as it driven through Chelmsley Wood on ‘cloned plates’.

As the motorist was boxed in by marked police cars, the driver fled and hid in nearby brambles, officers said. He was ‘quickly found’ by police dogs and their handlers.

Police also uncovered “his drugs and his knife” during the stop. WMP Traffic later shared an image of a fearsome blade they had seized.

Taking to Twitter to share the news, traffic officers wrote: “This Peugeot was recently stolen from Kings Heath in a burglary before we saw it on cloned plates in Chelmsley Wood. It was pursued until the driver decamped & he was quickly found hiding in some nearby brambles by WM Dogs.

“We also found his drugs and his knife.”

Police said they also found drugs and a knife

It comes weeks after Birmingham was identified as a hotspot, according to recent data revealing the number of crimes per 1,000 households. The number of domestic burglaries in the city are more than three times as prevalent than nearby South Staffordshire – as revealed in a new BirminghamLive interactive tool.[2]

You can tap in your postcode and it will show the burglary rate where you live. Across the UK, the rate is measured at between one and 21 per 1,000 households – with Birmingham near the top.

Rates are higher across the West Midlands metropolitan area, taking into account the Black Country[3], Solihull[4] and Coventry than bordering areas, including Worcestershire[5] and Shropshire[6].
