Police appeal after crash leaves biker fighting for life

Police are appealing for information after a horror crash left a biker fighting for his life[1]. The collision between a bike and a car happened on Lode Lane at the junction of Rowood Drive, Solihull[2], at around 6.45pm last night, May 18.

The 29-year-old biker suffered serious injuries and remains in a life-threatening condition in hospital. His family were being supported by dedicated family liaison officers.

The driver of the car stopped at the scene. They were assisting officers with their investigation.

Det Sgt Paul Hughes, of West Midlands Police[4], said: “This occurred on a busy main road and I am keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or who recalls seeing a red off-road style bike being ridden on Lode lane.

“The investigation is in its early stages and it is important we establish the full facts in order to give those involved the answers they need.”

An ambulance service spokesman told BirminghamLive[5]: “We were called to reports of a collision between a car and a motorcyclist at the junction of Lode Lane and Rowood Drive at 6.45pm. Two ambulances, a paramedic officer, a BASICS doctor, a community first responder and the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance attended the scene.

“On arrival we discovered one patient, a man, who was the motorcyclist. He received specialist trauma care at the scene and was airlifted to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, in a serious condition.”

Anyone who saw what happened, or has dash-cam footage, should email [email protected][6] or contact police by calling 101, quoting log 4175 of May 18.
