‘Nobody was taken to hospital’ after lorry flips on the A358
The lorry overturned on the Southfields roundabout near Ilminster, heading towards Taunton[1]. This caused one lane to be blocked. Drivers were warned of delays.
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service were called to the scene along with Avon and Somerset Police at around 1.38pm.
In a statement made at the time, a spokesperson for the force said: "Officers are currently dealing with an overturned lorry at the Ilminster roundabout with the junction for the A358 towards Taunton. Please take extra care when travelling down this road as delays are likely."
A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) said: “We were called at 1.54pm to an incident in the Ilminster area. We sent a responding officer, but nobody was taken to hospital.”
National Highways South West have said: "The overturned lorry, between the A358 (Horton Cross) and South Petherton, initially closed the eastbound A303, with delays of around 10 minutes, and that closure remained in place, with the westbound carriageway remaining open.
"The road was fully closed at 8.10pm, both eastbound and westbound, to enable a complex operation to right and recover the lorry. The westbound carriageway reopened at 9.47pm, and lane 1 of the eastbound carriageway opened at 10.20pm and following recovery of the vehicle and debris clearance, the road was fully reopened just before 11pm.
"During the full closure, traffic followed diversion routes via the B3168, and delays were minimal."
