Mum slams police probe into son’s assault after 12-year-old’s lip …

A mum has slammed a West Midlands Police probe into her son’s assault claiming the force has “done nothing”. The youngster, 12, was beaten in Gloucester Way, Solihull[1], on May 7.

His lip burst after being punched and he required hospital treatment to stitch the nasty gash back together. The schoolboy’s mum claimed her son was attacked by another lad who had threatened him a few days prior outside their home.

She said the police did not act on the threats at the time and are yet to take official statements in person following the assault. The force told us officers are liaising with the victim’s family and school as enquiries continue. No arrests have been made.

The mum, who we have decided not to name, told BirminghamLive[3]: “I am beyond frustrated at how long the police are taking to deal with this assault on my 12-year-old-son. We called police on May 1 due to an altercation outside our home involving a young boy making threats of violence and criminal damage.

“Nothing was done and the officer I spoke to was patronising and condescending. I made a complaint the next day but am still yet to receive any communication.

“Then, on May 7, my son was assaulted by the very same boy who had threatened him. He split his lip which needed specialist treatment – and may even need further treatment.

“The police have done absolutely nothing. They have not taken a statement or spoken to the boy who assaulted him. We have no idea when, or even if, they’re going to act.”

We approached West Midlands Police[4] detailing the mum’s concerns. The force told us: “We’re investigating after a boy was injured after being punched in Gloucester Way, Solihull[5], on Sunday (May 7).

“Officers have spoken with the youngster and his mother and are looking into any CCTV opportunities which may be available. We have also been in contact with the family following an earlier incident reported to us on May 1.

“We know these incidents will have been upsetting and officers are also liaising with the youngster’s school as our enquiries continue.”

Anyone with information about this assault should contact police by calling 101, quoting crime reference number 20/389142/23.
