Merseyrail stations change names to celebrate Eurovision
This week has seen Eurovision fever conquering the Liverpool[1] City Region, and now even the Merseyrail[2] network map has had a fabulous makeover.
To celebrate the Eurovision Song Contest, Merseyrail[3] has produced a special edition of its iconic network map by renaming its stations to suitably pun-tastic alterations.

Passengers can now get themselves into the Eurovision mood by boarding at Brotherhood of Manor Road[4], changing at Ooh Ah – A Little Bit Moorfields[5], before heading up to Boom-Bang-A-Bank-Hall via Sand-y Shaw -Hills.
The special edition map is sure to be a favourite hit with fans of Eurovision and can be picked up free of charge from all 4 MtoGo stores at Liverpool Central[6], Hamilton Square[7], Liverpool South Parkway[8], and Southport[9] as a souvenir of the big event.

At Liverpool Central, a special Eurovision stage has been installed where live acts perform for passengers passing through the network’s busiest station. Earlier this week Elton Wrong, Team Bee Gees and DJ Booth performed, whilst today and tomorrow the Over the Water Choir and Liverpool Rock Choir will provide the entertainment.

Eurovision presenters Julia Sanina, Rylan, and Graham Norton have even been making station and train announcements.
Suzanne Grant, Commercial Director of Merseyrail, said: “We’ve had a lot of fun creating our Eurovision network map. I’m sure passengers and Eurovision fanatics will enjoy the word play – and maybe even think up some that we have missed!

“The whole Eurovision week has been fantastic for the city region, and everyone at Merseyrail will be working hard to ensure everyone can travel safely and swiftly – especially on Saturday, the day of The Grand Final.
“All day Saturday Merseyrail trains will run to a 20-minute frequency on all parts of the network until the evening service when the usual 30-minute timetable will operate. This is with the exception of the Ellesmere Port[12] line which will run to a 30-minute frequency throughout.
“Please remember that all Wirral line trains will start and terminate at Liverpool Central in the city centre, while Hunts Cross[13], Southport[14], Kirkby[15] and Ormskirk[16] line trains will start and terminate at Moorfields[17] in the city centre. James Street[18] and Lime Street low level stations will also be closed all day on Saturday.
“We’ll have late-night trains running into the early hours of Sunday morning too. So please check before you travel and give yourself plenty of time.”
