Man trapped under double-decker coach for two hours in Essex

A man was trapped under a double-decker bus in an Essex town for two hours before being rescued yesterday (May 15). A man at a yard in Roydon had had his arm trapped within the suspension of a huge coach he had been working on.

The coach had been lifted with hydraulics when a strut failed, dropping the coach and trapping the man’s arm. Emergency services rushed to the scene, led by the fire service who arrived first.

As well as the fire service, which sent crews from Harlow, Brentwood, and the Urban Search and Rescue Team, the East of England Ambulance Service and the Helicopter Emergency Medical Service both went straight to the scene. All teams worked together to help release the man’s arm as carefully as possible.

It took two hours to free the man from the coach, Station Manager Nick Singleton said. The man had to be cut away from the coach in order to be released.

He was left in the care of the ambulance service.
