Man ‘surrenders’ to police after six-hour stand-off

A man surrendered to police following a six-hour stand-off in Stroud this morning (May 30). Road closures were in place on the A46 Bath Road[1] amid the incident which included armed police.

Gloucestershire Police[2] went to an address at around 1am after a man refused to leave a property. Negotiators and armed officers remained at the scene for several hours.

The man eventually surrendered to police at around 7.20am. All of the road closures were then lifted.

Police have confirmed that no-one was injured during the incident. They have thanked the public for their patience.

Gloucestershire Police said in an updated statement: “Road closures which had been in place due to an incident on A46 Bath Road in Stroud have now been lifted. Police had been in attendance at an address since around 1am today, Tuesday 30 May, after a man refused to leave a property.

“Negotiators and armed officers remained at the property for several hours and road closures had been put in place due to this. He surrendered himself to police at around 7.20am and the road closures have now been removed.

“No-one was injured during the incident and officers have thanked those impacted by the closures for their patience and understanding.”
