Man sentenced for assaulting emergency worker in Witney

A man has been sentenced for assaulting an emergency worker in Witney. Kevin Crierie, aged 48 was sentenced at Oxford Magistrates’ Court on Monday (May 15).

He pleaded guilty at the same hearing to one count of assault of an emergency worker. He was fined £1,200 and ordered to pay other costs totalling £665.

Crierie assaulted a police officer in Market Square, Witney, just after midnight on April 30. He was arrested at the scene and charged with the offence later the same day.

Investigating officer PC Sarah Finch said: "As a force, we do not tolerate any assault of our officers or assaults on other emergency service workers.

“Police officers and staff should be able to come to work without fear that they will be assaulted or injured. We will always fully investigate incidents and work closely with the Crown Prosecution Service to bring offenders before the courts.”
