Man dies in crash on A470 near Zip World

A motorcyclist died today following a collision with a van near Betws-y-Coed in Conwy[1]. Emergency services were called to scene on the A470 near Zip World Fforest but the man could not be saved.

Drivers were told to find an alternative route as both lanes on a stretch of the busy carriageway between the attraction and Lon Muriau were closed for about four hours while investigations were carried out. The northbound lane of the A470 near the scene had been re-opened by 7pm this evening.

North Wales Police[2] said it received a report of a two-vehicle collision on the A470 between Llanrwst[3] and Betws-y-Coed involving a motorcycle and a silver Citroen Berlingo shortly after 1pm today. The emergency services attended, however, despite their best efforts, the male motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

His next of kin and the Coroner have been informed. Sergeant Jason Diamond, of North Wales Police, is appealing for witnesses. He said: “Sadly this is now being investigated as a fatal road traffic collision and our thoughts are with the man’s family at this very difficult time.

“We are urging anybody who may have witnessed the collision, or anybody who may have been travelling along the A470 in the vicinity of Betws-y-Coed and who may have dash cam footage to contact us. The road remains closed to allow the Forensic Collision Investigation Unit to carry out their initial investigation and we’d like to thank everyone for their patience.”
