M6 tragedy as biker dies after collision with lorry

A biker has died following a fatal collision with a lorry on the M6. Police, firefighters, paramedics, and the air ambulance were scrambled to the southbound carriageway – between junctions 10A and 10 – this morning to reports of a crash.

As reported by StokeonTrentLive[1] the route – along with part of the M54 – was shut off while emergency services dealt with the incident. This afternoon it has been confirmed the biker, a man in his 40s, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

West Midlands Ambulance Service[2] were called to the scene just after 8.15am and sent two ambulances, a paramedic officer, a BASICS doctor, a critical care paramedic and the Midlands Air Ambulance to the scene. A spokeswoman said: “On arrival, crews discovered a motorbike and a lorry had been involved in a collision and the motorcyclist, a man, was in a critical condition.

“Ambulance staff immediately began administering advanced life support but sadly, despite everyone’s best efforts, it became apparent that he could not be saved and was confirmed dead at the scene.”

Staffordshire Police[4] say the biker’s next of kin have been informed. A spokeswoman said: “We went to the scene with colleagues from West Midlands Police, Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service and West Midlands Ambulance Service.

“A motorcyclist, in his 40s, was found in cardiac arrest following a collision involving a lorry. Sadly, he was pronounced dead by paramedics a short time later.

“Formal identification will take place in due course. Next of kin have been informed.”

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service[5] sent crews from Cannock and Fallings Park to the scene. A spokeswoman said: “The casualty was not trapped. This casualty was later confirmed as a fatality.

“We left the incident in the care of the police and left the scene at 9.07am.”

The stretch reopened at around 1.10pm.
