M6 one-hour delay warning after van collision leaves four miles of …
Shards of glass were left strewn across the M6 after a van collision today. Traffic came to a stop on the northbound carriageway following the early morning crash near Great Barr and Spaghetti Junction.
A picture from the scene shows large amounts of debris scattered across the carriageway. All lanes have since been reopened but drivers are being warned one-hour delays and more than four miles of congestion remain.
Traffic monitoring system Inrix said: “Long delays and very slow traffic due to earlier accident, a van involved on M6 northbound from junction six A38 Tyburn Road (Spaghetti Junction) to junction seven A34 Birmingham Road (Great Barr). All lanes have been re-opened.
“All traffic was briefly held to remove glass debris from the road and recover a vehicle.” The incident was first reported by National Highways West Midlands just before 5.40am today (Friday, May 12).
It sent traffic officers to the scene, while at least two of four lanes were closed for recovery work. All lanes were reopened by 7.40am.
National Highways West Midlands tweeted at the time: “Traffic has stopped on the M6 northbound between J6 (Birmingham) and J7 (Walsall[2]) following a collision. Recovery is en route, and our traffic officers are on the scene while debris is being cleared from the carriageway.
“There are delays of at least 30 minutes.”
