Hair salon owner in Co Down “heartbroken” after arson attack

A Co Down hair salon has been totally gutted after a fire in the very early hours of Saturday morning.

Mojo & Co in Newry[1] posted about the blaze on their Facebook page, with the fire being treated by police as a deliberate incident.

Pictures of the fire show that the entire interior of the business has been completely destroyed.

“We are totally devastated and in shock and can’t comprehend why this has happened!,” the post read.

“Our dreams are gone, MOJO&Co was set on fire – we would have been opened 5 years this June.

“All the hard work and dedication put into growing a really successful business and now it’s ashes.

“I don’t know why people would do this.

“Not only did they ruin our lives but they ruined all our staffs, all our rent a chairs, the little kids who are making their holy communion this morning and all our clients who have stood by us for year.

“Everyone without a job or a place to work and a way to make a living – we are totally heartbroken.”

The NIFRS confirmed it was investigating the incident and the PSNI[3] confirmed that the fire is being treated as an arson attack.

“It was reported to police at around 12.25am, our colleagues from the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service were in attendance at a fire in the area,” a police spokesperson said.

“At this time the fire is being treated as deliberate, and investigated as an arson.

“Extensive damage was caused to the business and the front right window of the property was also smashed.

“Smoke and water damage was also caused to an adjoining business.”
