Dudley crash: Pedestrian dies after being hit by lorry
A pedestrian has been killed in a crash with a lorry. The woman, who was in her 70s, was hit by a HGV in Dudley[1] this afternoon (May 17).
Paramedics rushed to the scene but were unable to save her. Police have now launched an investigation into the fatal collision, which took place near the junction of Wellington Road and Stourbridge Road at 3pm.
The lorry driver is helping officers with their enquiries. Stourbridge Road remains closed in both directions, according to traffic monitoring system Inrix.
It comes as officers are said to be at the scene as drivers find alternative routes. Dudley Police tweeted: "We are currently at the scene of a fatal collision in Dudley[3].
"We were called to the junction of Wellington Road and Stourbridge Road at 3pm after a pedestrian was hit by an HGV. Sadly the pedestrian, a woman in her 70s, was confirmed dead at the scene.
"Officers are remaining at the scene and advise drivers to find an alternative route. An investigation is now ongoing the driver of the HGV is helping us with our enquiries."
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said the HGV driver was assessed at the scene and did not need hospital treatment. She added: "We were called to reports of a road traffic collision at the junction of Wellington Road and Stourbridge Road in Dudley at 3pm.
"Two ambulances and a paramedic officer were sent to the scene where, on arrival, crews discovered a lorry and a pedestrian had been involved in a collision. Sadly, it quickly became apparent that the pedestrian, a woman, could not be saved and she was confirmed dead at the scene.
"Ambulance[4] staff assessed the driver of the lorry but he did not require hospital treatment and was discharged at the scene." West Midlands Roads said there are delays in the area due to the collision.
National Express West Midlands services 6 and 8 are also being affected, with diversions in place.
