Ducati rider killed in crash with Honda Jazz at Prees Heath
A biker died after a crash with a car in Shropshire. The A49 in Prees Heath was closed in both directions following the tragedy.
Emergency services were called to Prees Heath Common Reserve at 1.45pm on Thursday, May 18. Nothing could be done to save the Ducati rider and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the car, a Honda Jazz, was airlifted to Royal Stoke University Hospital with potentially serious injuries after she was cut free from the vehicle. A female passenger was also taken to hospital with minor injuries.
A West Mercia Police spokesman said: “Police were called to a collision involving a car and a motorbike at Prees Heath Common Reserve at 1.45pm today. The male rider of the Ducati bike was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
“The two female occupants of the Honda Jazz car were taken to Royal Stoke University Hospital, the driver with serious injuries the passenger with minor injuries. The road is still closed.”
West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “On arrival, crews discovered the motorcyclist, a man, in a critical condition. Ambulance staff immediately began administering advanced life support but sadly, despite everyone’s best efforts, it became apparent that he could not be saved and was confirmed dead at the scene.
“The driver of the car, a woman, was cut free from the vehicle with the assistance of fire colleagues before being assessed by medics. She was treated for potentially serious injuries before being airlifted to Royal Stoke University Hospital for further treatment.
“A third patient, the female passenger of the car, was treated by ambulance staff for injuries not believed to be serious before being conveyed by land ambulance to the same hospital for further treatment.”
Shropshire Council has warned motorists the road is expected to be closed “for some time” from the end of Whitchurch Road to Prees Heath Roundabout while collision investigators are on the scene. Cheshire Police has also urged anyone planning to head to Bike Night at Prees Heath to “ride safely and find an alternative route”.
