Devastated family’s tribute to ‘devoted’ dad who died after being hit …
The family of a “devoted” dad-of-two who died after being hit by a car have paid a loving tribute to him. Paul Anthony Evans, 60, died after being hit by a car shortly before 1am on Sunday, April 23 on the High Street close to the King’s Lane junction in Cefn Mawr.[1] A 51-year-old man was arrested in connection with the crash, and has since been released under investigation.
The family of Mr Evans, who lived in Cefn Mawr and was known as “Fred”, have now paid a loving tribute to him. They said: “Fred, as he was known by his friends and family, was a much-devoted father of two children – Katie and Tom. Fred leaves behind his girlfriend of 23 years, Helen, and five young grandchildren – Kos, Osian, Leo, Rocco and Harlow.
Fred was also a loving and protective brother to Richard and his family. “Fred was originally from Rhosymedre, but had lived in Cefn Mawr for most of his life. In his younger life, Fred played football for The Red Skins in Cefn Mawr, where Tom would enjoy watching him play, Fred went on to play football for Cefn Druids.
“He returned the favour to his son where he would travel far and wide watching Tom play football and rugby. Fred also loved to support his young grandchildren when they played football – his grandchildren would call him ‘Taido Fred’ and he would always make them laugh in the most unconventional ways. “Katie remembers how comforting and reliable her dad was.
If she ever needed anything, no matter what, her dad would be there to support her. He was such a unique character, there was nobody else like our ‘Fred Spanner’.” You can leave your own tributes to Fred using the comments section below.[3]
They added: “Fred and Helen met in 2000 and have made a lot of memories since then with their friends and family. Fred was a very kind man and would do anything to help anyone in the local community. He would never ask for anything in return but just loved to help people.
“He was a very hard working, caring, and humble person, who loved his family so much. He loved his life and he was always a happy and carefree soul. It goes without saying that his family are devastated by their sudden loss, and Fred will be truly missed by all.
“His passing has devastated the local community because he was loved by everyone he knew. His friends and family described him as ‘once met never forgotten.'” Sergeant Nicola Laurie of the Roads Policing Unit said: “Our sympathies remain with Mr Evans’ family and friends at this difficult time.
