A303 reopen after probe into serious crash involving HGV and car
One of the main roads through Somerset and Dorset has now reopened following a serious crash last night (Saturday, May 20).
The A303 was shut in both directions for a serious collision investigation after a crash involving a lorry and a car at around 7.15pm.
Roads and traffic monitoring service Inrix reported: “A303 in both directions closed, queueing traffic due to serious accident, a car and a lorry involved from A37 ( Podimore Roundabout, Ilchester ) to A3088 ( Yeovil turn off) Cartgate Roundabout (Martock). The closure is affecting traffic between Cartgate and Podimore”
In an update at midnight, Inrix said the road remains closed in both directions for a serious collision investigation. At around 2am, National Highways announced the road had opened eastbound, but remained closed westbound. Then, at around 2.40am, the roads authority announced the A303 had fully reopened.
Police have not yet confirmed any details about potential injuries or casualties.
