A303 crash: Man dies after colliding with parked lorry near Ilchester
A man has died following a crash on the A303 in Somerset[1] on Saturday evening (May 20). Emergency services rushed to the scene near Ilchester shortly before 7pm[2].
Avon and Somerset Police[3] say a black Skoda Citigo collided with a lorry which was parked and unattended in a layby. Sadly, the sole occupant of the car was pronounced dead at the scene.
The road was closed for investigation work to take place. It reopened again shortly before 3am on Sunday (May 21).
Investigating officers are now appealing for witnesses of the collision to come forward. They are keen to hear from anyone who saw what happened or who has relevant dash came footage.
Police said in a statement: “His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by a family liaison officer. Our thoughts are with them.
“We’d like to hear from anyone who saw the collision or has any information or dashcam footage of the car in the moments beforehand. If you can help, please call 101 and give the call handler the reference number 5223117751, or complete our online appeals form[5].”
