Woman dies in serious crash involving car, lorry and van on Essex …
A woman has died following a serious collision between a car, lorry and a van on the Essex border. Despite the best efforts of emergency responders, a woman, in her 50s, died at the scene. Officers were called to New Road at the junction with Wennington Road in Rainham at 8:31am on April 19 following reports of a collision.
Police attended alongside colleagues from London Ambulance Service (LAS), London Fire Brigade and London’s Air Ambulance. Despite first aid, the female driver of the car – a woman aged in her 50s – was sadly reported dead at the scene. Police have informed her next of kin.
They are being supported by specially trained officers. The driver of the lorry was not arrested. He and the driver of a van were taken to hospital for treatment to minor injuries.
The driver of the lorry continues to assist with police enquiries. A spokesperson for the Met Police said: “Detectives from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit are appealing for any witnesses, or those with dashcam footage, to make contact. Please call 101 ref CAD 2706/19 Apr.”
An official for London Ambulance Service told MyLondon: “We were called at 8.37am today (19 April) to reports of a road traffic collision involving a car and a lorry at the junction between New Road and Wennington Road, Rainham. “We sent a number of resources to the scene, including three ambulance crews, medics in two fast response cars, an advanced paramedic, an incident response officer and a clinical team manager. We also dispatched London’s Air Ambulance.
“We treated two patients at the scene before taking one of them to hospital.
Sadly, despite the best efforts of our crews, a person was pronounced dead at the scene.”
