Tributes Paid To 73-Year-Old Victim Of Tragic Tyrone Crash
Tributes are being paid to the 73-year-old victim of a tragic Tyrone crash who died weeks after a collision involving a lorry. Ita Cavanagh was struck by a lorry while crossing the road in the William Street area of Cookstown, Tyrone[1] on February 9. Airlifted to hospital following the single-vehicle road traffic collision, Ms Cavanagh passed away peacefully at Royal Victoria Hospital surrounded by her family on March 27.

Ms Cavanagh’s funeral service took place on Friday, March 31, at Magherafelt’s The Church of the Assumption.
Donations in lieu of flowers were requested to be sent to the Northern Ireland Air Ambulance. Her death notice[2] reads: ‘Very deeply regretted by her loving husband, daughter, son-in-law, sisters, brothers, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews, entire family circle, neighbours and friends.’

Those who knew Ms Cavanagh took to social media to share their memories with her and to pay their respects to her family.
One person said: ‘A kind and gentle lady… He only picks the best; God and his holy Mother have a special place in heaven for you.’ Another added: ‘Sincere condolences on the death of your loved one Ita. a gentle lady to her loving husband John, daughter Sharon and Liam her husband, and all extended Fox and Cavanagh families at this sad time May she rest in peace.’

While someone wrote: ‘Rest in peace Ita with the angels. Condolences to all the family.’ The PSNI are appealing to anyone with dash-cam footage to contact them immediately as they continue investigating the incident.
A police spokesperson said: ‘Our investigation is underway and we are appealing to anyone who was travelling in the William Street area around this time and who has dash-cam footage, to contact the Collision Investigation Unit on 101, and quote reference number 955 of 09/02/23.’
