Thameslink train toilets covered in so much graffiti passengers …
Travellers on Thameslink trains[1] have expressed their frustration at toilets covered with "disgusting" graffiti on the operator's services, suggesting the level of vandalism[2] is like that famously seen in Paris. They add that the markings should be removed "by the end of every working day" when a photo showed a toilet with so much graffiti a passenger thought it must have been building up for some time. Posting photos of the vandalism on carriage 407004 of a service departing London St.
Pancras for Sutton[3] at 6.27pm on Wednesday (April 12), Paul Lucas said: "Almost Parisian levels of graffiti on this Thameslink[4] train. FYI Thameslink it's vehicle 407004, accessible toilet." Getting the cleaning up process under way, a Thameslink spokesperson replied: "My apologies Paul, thank you for providing the carriage number.
Could I please ask you to confirm which service this was onboard?" After Mr Lucas confirmed, they added: "Thank you for confirming the service information Paul, and I've reported this to our dedicated team." Another passenger, Max Howard, posted photos of a similarly graffitied lavatory in another Thameslink toilet. Thameslink has said that it endeavours to remove graffiti as soon as possible but has to balance this with taking a train out of service.
This could cause passenger trains to be cancelled and leave accessible toilets unavailable for passengers with mobility needs. Regarding Mr Lucas' complaint, a spokesperson for the operator said: "We deplore this criminal vandalism which will cost many thousands of pounds to repair, money which would be better spent on the passenger rail service. We'll be repainting the toilet as a matter of priority."
But some tried to make light of the incidents, with Gavin Brown replying to Mr Lucas' Twitter post ahead of King Charles[6] III's imminent anointing: "Looks like your invite to the coronation!?"
