Strong winds ‘likely to cause disruption’ as yellow weather warning …

A YELLOW weather warning for strong winds has been issued for parts of the north this week, with transport services including ferries likely to be affected. The UK Met Office has said the warning is in place for counties Antrim and Down from 3pm on Tuesday until 4pm on Wednesday, with gusts of up to 50mph likely inland, while coastal areas could see winds of up to 60mph. A spokesperson said areas on the coast could be “affected by spray and/or large waves” adding: “Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely.”

The winds are expected to be accompanied by heavy rain in some areas, and the yellow warning is also in place for Wales, part of south-east Scotland and the west coast of England.

Meanwhile, along with the yellow warning for Antrim and Down on Tuesday through to Wednesday, Met Eireann has issued a small craft warning for strong winds on all parts of the island’s coast from Sunday through to the middle of the week.
