‘Stand down Neil, your duty is done’
Tributes have been paid to a 41-year-old Maryport man who was found dead near Ennerdale Water. On Sunday (April 23), a body was found in the area of Ennerdale Bridge and Ennerdale Water. This was just three days after Neil Marland was reported missing.
Police confirmed yesterday (April 26) that the body found was that of Neil. Since then, Maryport Inshore Rescuer have paid tribute to their team member. Neil was a volunteer with Maryport Rescue for a number of years and actively supported the team.
A spokesperson said: “With heavy hearts, the team have been informed of the passing of one of our own, Mr Neil Marland. “Over the past couple of years, Neil has been a keen volunteer of Maryport Rescue and has been involved in a multitude of ways, from being part of the active team, supporting and driving fundraising activities along with maintenance and everything in between, he was instrumental in being a key part of the organisation and helped promote its existence through more ways than one. “Our condolences, thoughts and well wishes are with those of Neil’s families, he will be dearly missed by many.
Stand down Neil, your duty is done. Fair winds and following seas.” West Cumbria[1] Search and Rescue said: “Everyone at West Cumbria search and rescue would like to extend our condolences to the family and friends of Neil Marland, a keen volunteer for our SAR colleagues at Maryport Rescue.
