City officials say a below-ground separation of a drainage pipe was discovered by municipal workers on Thursday morning. Work to evaluate the extent of the damage is ongoing. All trail entrances on the Hamilton-Brantford Rail Trail between Beach Road and Papple Road now feature signs and barricades notifying people of the closure, the city said in a statement issued Thursday.

In addition, a detour is in place along Colborne Street East via Locks Road or Papple Road. Parks and facilities services and operational staff will be attending the site regularly assess the situation and ensure barricades remain in place for the public’s safety. Further updates, including when the trail can reopen, will be provided as the information becomes available.
