Police launch arson investigation after blaze destroys Suffolk barn

A person has been questioned by police after a suspected arson incident in a north Suffolk village. Fire crews were called to a farm in Rectory Lane, Worlingham, at 6pm on Sunday (April 2) to reports of a fire in an outbuilding. Upon arrival at the scene, firefighters found 30 tonnes of straw well alight inside a barn.

Crews from Beccles, Bungay, Halesworth, Wrentham, Leiston, Lowestoft North and Lowestoft South were called to the incident. The fire was brought under control on Sunday, but one crew remains at the scene today (Tuesday, April 4) as a controlled burn takes place. Local residents are asked to keep their doors and windows closed until the incident has concluded.

A Suffolk Police spokesperson said: “A group of young people was seen leaving the barn shortly before the fire was reported. One person has been questioned by police# and bailed pending further inquiries.” Anyone with information is asked to contact Suffolk Police, quoting crime reference number: 37/19157/23.
