Nuneaton Boro vs Tamworth FC game will be replayed after derby …
Nuneaton Boro will replay Tamworth FC after the derby game had to be abandoned. Trouble flared at The Lamb Ground[1] and match officials had to abandon the game on February 21. It was widely reported that bottles, bricks and flares[2] were thrown during the second half of the game, which at the time saw Tamworth leading 2-0.
Match officials, who led both teams off the pitch, were then forced to to abandon the match, known as the A5 derby. With the season due to end soon, many have been awaiting a decision about the game. There was uncertainty about whether the score of 2-0 to Tamworth at the time of the game being abandoned would stand or if it would have to be replayed in full or in part.
The FA has yet to make a decision[4] on if any punishments will be dished out to the teams. Yet the Southern League was given permission to consider the matter in advance of this. The League’s Emergency Committee met on Wednesday (April 12).
They ruled that the match is to replayed on Thursday, April 20 , kick off 7.45pm. But the decision on whether fans will be allowed in – or if the game will be played behind closed doors – has yet to be made. The league has said that the terms on which the match is to be played are to be decided following the decision of the FA.
Both clubs do have the right to appeal the league’s decision for the game to be replayed to the FA – and it looks as if Tamworth may look into this. The club posted on its page on Twitter[5] that it was to ‘review the findings’ of the league’s decision It read: “Tamworth Football Club are reviewing the findings from the Southern League and our options available and will make a further statement.”
However, Nuneaton[6] Boro simply posted the decision from the league on its account on Twitter and concluded: “We will update all fans when we have more information.”
