Met Office weather warning in Cornwall and all of South West

The Met Office has issued a wind warning for the whole of the South West which could bring some disruption this week. It’s been a dry and mild Easter weekend so far but the weather is due to take a turn in the coming days. Devon and Cornwall have been issued a yellow weather warning for wind as a result of the forecast.

The Met Office says you can expect a period of strong winds bringing the potential for some disruption on Tuesday and Wednesday. The warning for wind is in place from 3pm on Tuesday (April 11) until 6am on Wednesday and covers all of the South West and Wales. High pressure, which has been responsible for the dry and fine weekend weather for most, will move away to the east, to be replaced by a westerly Atlantic regime, with periods of winds and rain to come.

The Exeter-based Met Office adds that a developing low-pressure system looks likely to bring a more sustained period of wet and windy weather from Tuesday and into Wednesday.

Welsh forecaster Derek Brockway said it could become the first named storm of the season – Storm Antoni.

What to expect

  • Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely
  • Probably some bus and train services affected, with some journeys taking longer
  • Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely
  • Some short term loss of power and other services is possible
  • It’s likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities will be affected by spray and/or large waves
