Man ‘sprayed with substance’ near Wyke Smugglers pub

Emergency services were called to Portland Road in Wyke Regis shortly before 9.55pm on Friday night. Several police cars and two fire engines rushed to the scene and an area near the Wyke Smugglers pub was cordoned off. According to police, the man is being treated by the ambulance service and his condition is not believed to be serious.

A force spokesman said: “Extensive enquiries are ongoing to locate the offender, who is believed to have left the scene in a vehicle. “At this time there is nothing to indicate any wider risk to members of the public and there will be an increased police presence in the area as enquiries are carried out.” Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said they received a call about the incident at 9.59pm to assist police.

A crew from Weymouth station and a crew from Portland station attended.

They left the scene at 10.40pm.

The brigade was unable to give any further details.
