Man killed in Melton crash after motorbike leaves road

A man has died in a crash in Melton after his motorbike collided with a telegraph pole. Officers were called to reports of the serious crash on Saturday morning, March 9. The rider, in his 40s, was travelling on Saxby Road at 10.40am when his red Ducati motorbike left the carriageway. East Midlands Ambulance Service[1] was called but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Leicestershire Police closed the road while the force’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) carried out enquiries at the scene. Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service[2] was also called to assist “assist the police”. Saxby Road was closed from the A607 junction towards the neighbouring village of Freeby until around 4pm. Traffic was diverted away from the scene while the detectives dealt with the aftermath.

Detective Sergeant Jon Putnam from SCIU, said: “We know the motorbike was travelling on Saxby Road towards Melton Mowbray[4] and would like to speak to anyone who saw it before the collision. “We have spoken to a number of people who were in the area at the time of the collision but if you haven’t spoken to police and have any information, no matter how small you believe it to be, please contact us.” Anyone with information is asked to contact Leicestershire Police via the website at Home | Leicestershire Police (leics.police.uk)[5] or call 101, quoting incident number 239 of April 8.
