Man in court over fatal Ferndown crash involving lorry

Niel William Gill is accused of causing the death of Ernest Gunton by driving a Volvo FH500 lorry towing a trailer on the A348 Ringwood Road without due care and attention. Gill, aged 60 and of Scarrots Lane, Newport in Wales, appeared in the dock[1] at Poole Magistrates' Court for hearing on Friday, April 14. He did not enter a plea to the single charge.

He was remanded on unconditional bail and he is next due to appear at Bournemouth[2] Crown Court on May 12 for a plea and trial preparation hearing. The allegation relates to a collision involving a vehicle and pedestrian Mr Gunton, who was aged in his 90s, in Ringwood Road near to the White Heather pub on October 5, 2021. Mr Gunton sustained serious injuries and was taken to Southampton General Hospital for treatment after the crash.

He died in the early hours of October 7, 2021.
