Man faces charges after shooting leads to pursuit, crash on Hwy 61

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – Authorities say a shooting in a Summerville neighborhood led to a pursuit that ended in a crash on Highway 61 Monday.

Taif Cobbs, 31, is charged with attempted murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and failure to stop for blue lights, according to Capt. Chris Hirsch with the Summerville Police Department.

Officers were called to a reported shooting on Greenwave Boulevard at South Main Mobile Home Park around 2:45 p.m., according to Hirsch.

Hirsch said one person sustained a gunshot wound to his arm. His injuries were non-life-threatening.

Officers said they were given a description of Cobbs and details about a car he left in.

Hirsch said Cobbs was spotted near Orangeburg Road and a chase ensued on Highway 61.

Officials say Cobbs crashed into another vehicle near Bacons Bridge Road, and Highway 61 was shut down for several hours.

Two people in the second vehicle received non-life-threatening injuries, according to Lt.

Rick Carson with the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office.

Cobbs was being held at the Dorchester County Detention Center.
